Remember to always use proper solar viewing equipment when observing any type of solar eclipse. Thanks to Senator Laura Ellman and the Illinois Optometric Association, we are offering FREE certified solar eclipse glasses at Spring Avenue Recreation Center, Main Street Recreation Center, and Ackerman SFC. As part of due diligence during the reconstruction of the Frank Johnson Center, the Glen Ellyn Park District conducted soil tests revealing the presence of contaminants at depth. This discovery does not impact the planned site improvements; however, the District has chosen to temporarily close the playground out of an abundance of caution. The playground structure will be temporarily removed in mid-February and will be reinstalled and reopened after remediation is complete. Stay tuned for reopening announcements on our website and social media pages. For more information about this project, please contact Nate Troia at [email protected] or visit gepark.org/projects.
